Witchy Basics: My Favorite Herbs

Updated: Feb 19, 2019

I'm very much a kitchen witch and i use herbs a lot in my craft. I also cook a lot so they come in handy for flavor and magic. I use basic, everyday herbs for magic and they work just fine so don't think you have to grow your own or spend all your money at whole foods or something (I do plan on growing my own herbs of course, but right now it's 20 degrees out lol)

Salt is probably the most basic and the most important materials a witch can have. It's used for purification and for cleansing of course. Sprinkling salt in your house and in windows is good for protection, sugar also works this way. There's many memes and jokes about witches having salt everywhere and it's very true.

I'm really connected to bay leaves for some reason and put them in almost everything. Bay leaves can be used for protection, success, money and granting wishes. You can write what you want to manifest on a bay leaf, burn it and it will bring you good luck and hopefully what you want.

Another one i use daily is basil, it's used for domestic harmony, home protection and warding off negative influences. A simple charm to protect your home is to sprinkle basil by the door, in the windows or grow it if you can. It also attracts money. I cook with it whenever i can.

Peppermint and spearmint can be used for cleansing, peaceful sleep and bringing change and abundance. I drink peppermint tea or mixed mint tea before bed regularly and it helps so much.

Sage is a very popular witchy herb, it's burned to cleanse spaces and banish negative energy. Whenever we moved into a new place, my mom would always burn sage in every room and by the door. Sage can also be eaten so sometimes we put it in soups and stews.

Hope this helps!
